Non-Dilutive Funding + SR&ED

📋 July Recap

  • InvitedISED Strategic Response Fund — invited to full application. The EOI went in Jul 16 on a $10,000,000 ask, and ISED confirmed the same day that the project meets eligibility criteria and issued the full application package under the Food Security Call for Proposals.
  • SubmittedAAFC AgriScience EOI submitted Jul 16 — $1,500,000 ask (up to 70% cost-share against a $5M program ceiling).
  • Full SRF dossier built out over the last week of July and delivered for your review Jul 31 — full application, Annexes A through D, contribution agreement, plus eight supporting attachments including three-year financial statements, revenue model and forecast, corporate structure, market research, the GRAS dossier and consensus panel statement, and the Amsterdam Brewery costing proposal.
  • DeliveredPhase Genomics investment memo delivered Jul 10, drafted against two scenarios given the database sale — either path unlocks funding opportunities, which was the point of running it both ways.
  • Coefficient Giving Alt-Protein RFP scoped — Round 1 closes Aug 10 at $100K–$1M USD per award against a $10M pool, with Round 2 at $1M–$5M on Sept 15. Full portal question set extracted and mapped.
  • NPC Proof of Concept greenlit and submitted — worth approximately $350K if approved. Nicely timed against NPC's Jul 28 programs announcement, which you remain eligible for.
  • Grains Innovation Fund added to the tracker for the fall reopening, and the Jul 14 scan established the binding constraint across the portfolio: match funding. The sequencing implication is to line up debt first, then use committed debt as the match. It also surfaced a real fork — Ontario's OMMITC requires M&P property in Ontario while Alberta's APITC requires the facility in Alberta. Mutually exclusive on the same asset.

🔭 August Outlook

  • ISED SRF full application — deadline Aug 4.
  • Coefficient Giving Round 1 — Aug 10, 5:00 p.m. PT.
  • Clean Agri-Tech Accelerator (CATA) — Aug 19, up to $200,000.
  • CAAIN Open Competition — Aug 7. Worth a conversation rather than an assumption: CAAIN's mandate centres on on-farm production technology, and precision-fermentation casein reads as food and bio-manufacturing. There is also a gate requiring cash contributions from two or more Canadian SMEs.
  • Coefficient Giving Round 2 — Sept 15 at the $1M–$5M band.
  • AgriScience EOI decision expected roughly 30 days from the Jul 16 submission.
  • Ontario AMIC — Sept 23. Before spending drafting time, we need to resolve whether three years of audited or review-engagement financial statements exist, and confirm the 50% federal-plus-provincial cap does not collide with SRF.
  • Confirm the CFIN True North report and claim went in — it was due around Jul 14 and remains open on our side.
